Former Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality Chairperson convicted in graft case

KATHMANDU: The Special Court Kathmandu has delivered its verdict in a graft case, convicting six individuals, including Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality's former Chairperson, Govinda Bahadur Khadka.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had initiated legal proceedings against 27 individuals, including former Chairperson Khadka, on charges of corruption related to an electrification project.

Deputy Registrar and Spokesperson of the Special Court, Dhan Bahadur Karki, disclosed that out of the 27 accused, six have been found guilty, while the remaining 21 have been acquitted.

Khadka, along with Raju Prasad Neupane, Tanka Prasad Chaulagain, Durga Bahadur Tamang, Norbu Lama, and Pike Construction operator Amrit Bahadur Tamang, has been convicted by the court.

The court has imposed a fine of Rs 19.9 million on Khadka and sentenced him to six months in prison.

Similarly, Neupane and Chaulagain have been sentenced to three months in jail each and fined Rs 6.3 million individually. In the case of Tamang and Lama, a three-month imprisonment term and a fine of Rs 3.1 million each have been imposed.
