TRC bill in final stages: Minister Padam Giri
PARBAT: Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Padam Giri, has announced that the bill concerning the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons is nearing completion and has reached its final stages.
Speaking at a program organized at Mahashila rural municipality today, Minister Giri revealed that the bill is set to be finalized imminently.
He highlighted that consensus has been achieved on the majority of the bill's provisions, with only a few points remaining to be discussed and agreed upon.
Emphasizing the extensive consultations held among leaders of various political parties and within parliamentary committees, Minister Giri assured that the remaining points of contention will be resolved through further discussions.
Giri underscored the commitment of political parties to introduce a bill that provides justice to victims, asserting that its presentation in parliament is imminent as it enters its final phase.
Furthermore, Minister Giri stressed the importance of legal literacy reaching rural areas, emphasizing that ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse and has led to many individuals suffering.
He lamented the slowdown in the country's development pace due to the lack of new laws following the transition to federalism, highlighting the necessity for amendments to existing legislation.
