Former House Speaker Mahara shifted to Kathmandu following Bhairahawa arrest

KATHMANDU: Following his arrest in Bhairahawa, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), has been brought to Kathmandu.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Mahara will be transferred to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for further proceedings.

The arrest follows directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Sunday, urging swift action against individuals involved in the gold smuggling case.

This comes after the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission recommended that the government pursue legal action against Mahara in connection with the smuggling allegations.
