NC raises concerns over appointment of Lamichhane as Home Minister amidst fraud allegations

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has raised serious questions regarding Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's decision to appoint Rabi Lamichhane as Home Minister, given his alleged involvement in cooperative fraud.

During the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, Ramesh Lekhak, the chief whip of the parliamentary party, emphasized that PM Dahal owes an explanation regarding the appointment of ministers who are currently under investigation.

Lamichhane is currently being investigated by the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) for his alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case.

Additionally, a case regarding misuse of passport is pending at the Supreme Court, while the Department of Money Laundering is conducting its own inquiry against Home Minister Lamichhane.

The NC's concerns highlight the need for transparency and accountability in ministerial appointments, especially in light of ongoing legal proceedings and investigations against individuals nominated for key governmental positions.
