UML expresses outrage as PM Dahal misses HoR session
Speaker Ghimire's ruling to the government to respond to opposition
KATHMANDU: Tensions ran high in Nepal's political arena as the CPN-UML, the main opposition force, expressed deep discontent over Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's absence from a vital House of Representatives (HoR) meeting.
During Sunday's parliamentary session, UML's chief whip, Padam Giri, raised concerns about the PM's absence, stressing the need for accountability and responsiveness to opposition queries.
"The government's disregard for opposition concerns is clear. PM Dahal's absence reflects a troubling trend of evading parliamentary responsibilities. We cannot stand idly by while critical issues are ignored," remarked Giri.
In response to the mounting pressure from the opposition, Speaker Devraj Ghimire intervened, directing the government to address the grievances raised by UML and other opposition parties.
UML has persistently called for the removal of ministers embroiled in corruption scandals, including the Balkumari incident.
The party's demands for the resignation of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and Tourism Minister Sudan Kirati have echoed throughout the ongoing parliamentary session.
