Speaker Ghimire directs govt to address queries on Balkumari incident

KATHMANDU: Chaos ensued in the parliamentary chambers as Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire issued a stern directive to the government, demanding answers regarding the Balkumari incident.

The opposition parties, fueled by outrage, disrupted Thursday's session, clamoring for the resignation of Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Development, Prakash Jwala, whom they accuse of negligence in the wake of the tragedy.

Despite findings from a government-appointed investigation committee pinpointing Minister Jwala's accountability, the government has yet to take decisive action, fueling frustration among lawmakers.

In a heated exchange during a prior parliamentary gathering, the CPN-UML, spearheading the opposition, called for Minister Jwala's immediate resignation and pressed for stringent punitive measures against those implicated in the incident.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's assurances of swift action failed to assuage mounting discontent among parliamentarians, as the absence of tangible steps towards justice continues to exacerbate tensions.

With the parliamentary session underway at the federal parliament building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, the nation watches with bated breath as the quest for accountability intensifies within the hallowed halls of governance.
