Traffic policeman stabbed in Sarlahi District Office attack

SARLAHI: In a shocking incident, a traffic policeman fell victim to a knife attack at the District Traffic Police Office in Nawalpur, Sarlahi district today.

The assailant targeted Traffic Police Constable Pramod Mahato from Gaushala Municipality-3, Mahottari, with a knife within the precincts of the District Traffic Police Office, as reported by Police Inspector Madan Thapa, the Chief of the district Traffic Police Office.

The attack occurred as Mahato entered the office after issuing a penalty receipt to a driver for violating traffic rules, a consequence of vehicle checks along the East-West highway outside the Office.

The assailant, identified as Yamamuddin Deman from Rajpur-1, Rautahat, arrived on a motorcycle with registration number plate Na 19 Pa 2555, traveling from west to east on the East-West highway in front of the District Traffic Police Office, according to Police Inspector Om Prakash Yadav, the Officiating Spokesman at the Office.

Deman attempted to flee after stabbing Mahato but was promptly apprehended. He is currently in police custody at Lalbandi.

Mahato sustained injuries to the forehead, neck, hands, and abdomen due to the knife attack. After initial treatment at a local health facility, he has been transferred to the National Medical College Birgunj for advanced medical care.

Police are conducting further investigations into this alarming incident, aiming to unravel the motive behind the attack and any additional details surrounding the assailant.
