PM Dahal advocates strategies to retain students in Nepal
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has urged a concerted effort to retain students within the country for education and employment, emphasizing the need for comprehensive measures.
Speaking at the 12th general assembly of the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), PM Dahal stressed the importance of introducing initiatives to create job opportunities and attract students to pursue their education in Nepal.
Expressing delight over increased enrollment in agricultural science, PM Dahal emphasized the AFU's pivotal role in advancing the agriculture and forestry sectors. He highlighted the collaborative effort required from university teachers, agriculture scientists, students, and technicians to achieve production and productivity targets.
PM Dahal called for effective measures to attract youth to agriculture, recognizing its significance in enhancing productivity.
PM Dahal envisions the AFU playing a significant role in technology production through improved education, research, and extension systems.
Despite challenges in the country's agriculture education and research system, he commended the AFU's potential contribution to the development of agriculture and forestry.
Acknowledging the establishment of eight agriculture faculties, colleges, and two agriculture science centers in different provinces, PM Dahal suggested extending educational programs to approved colleges in Syangja and Gorkha.
He praised the university's role in increasing production, productivity, promoting exports, and reducing national losses.
PM Dahal called on the AFU to provide evidence-based policy recommendations to enhance economic conditions and employment through scientific forestry management. He stressed the importance of maintaining higher quality in teaching and research, urging a constructive campaign for the sustainable operation of the university.
Established in Nepal in 2067 BS, the AFU addresses the need for a technical university dedicated to education and research in agriculture, livestock, veterinary, fishery, and forestry sectors.
