Nepal gears up for clash against Bangladesh in ICC U-19 World Cup Super Six stage

KATHMANDU: In an eagerly awaited encounter, Nepal is set to take on Bangladesh on Wednesday in the Super Six stage of the ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa.

This marks Nepal's inaugural match in the Super Six stage, with an upcoming face-off against India on Friday (February 2).

Securing a spot in the Super Six by finishing third in Group D, Nepal faced challenges against New Zealand and Pakistan, suffering defeats by 64 runs and 5 wickets, respectively. However, a thrilling victory against Afghanistan by 1 wicket propelled Nepal into the Super Six.

The Super Six stage showcases 12 teams, with Nepal, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Ireland forming one group.

The other group comprises South Africa, England, West Indies, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. The top two teams from each Super Six group will advance to the semi-finals, with points from the group stage influencing the calculations.

India, boasting five U-19 World Cup titles, leads the historical records, closely followed by Australia with three and Pakistan with two. Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies, and England each hold one title.

Nepal’s U-19 cricket team, making its seventh appearance in the World Cup after an eight-year hiatus, is celebrating the achievement of reaching the Super Six by overcoming Afghanistan, a Test nation.

Nepal secured its U-19 World Cup qualification by clinching victory against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the finals of the U-19 Asia Qualifier. The team is poised for a gripping journey in the Super Six, aiming to make its mark on the global stage.
