National Assembly election today

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) is gearing up for an election to fill 19 vacant seats falling vacant from March 4 today.

Candidates from eight political parties are in the race, with the ruling alliance strongly represented.

The major contenders include 10 candidates from the Nepali Congress, six from CPN (Maoist Center), two from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one from the Janata Samajbadi Party. 

In addition to the ruling alliance candidates, there are 19 contenders from CPN-UML, two from Janamat Party, seven from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and four from the Nepal Workers Peasants Party.

According to the official schedule released by the Election Commission, the voting process is set to commence today, running from 9 am to 3 pm.

A total of 2,047 voters will participate, consisting of 549 province assembly members and 1,498 mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of municipalities and rural municipalities.

The voting weightage includes 53 from Province Assembly members and 19 from chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities, as well as mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities.
