NA Election: Silence period begins from today

KATHMANDU: A period of silence has descended upon the National Assembly (NA) election, initiated today by the Election Commission (EC).

The EC, in a formal statement, has declared a halt to all election-related campaign activities effective immediately.

This silence period will persist until the culmination of the voting process.

Throughout this designated timeframe, all members associated with political parties, candidates, affiliated organizations, and entities bound by the established code of conduct are expressly prohibited from participating in any form of discussions, interactions, meetings, conferences, workshops, or any propaganda associated with the election.

Moreover, the Commission has underscored that no form of vote solicitation or election campaigning is allowed through any method, process, or means.

In addition, the dissemination of messages, information, or propaganda materials—whether in favor of or against any political party or candidate—is strictly forbidden across social media, online platforms, print media, or any other communication medium.

The voting for National Assembly members is scheduled to take place on January 25, commencing at 9 am and concluding at 3 pm.

This election has been called to fill the vacancies left by 19 members whose 6-year tenure has concluded.

For the 20 members whose tenure has also ended, the President will nominate one person.

The election's primary objective is to elect members representing diverse provinces and regions, with a specific emphasis on inclusivity by ensuring the active participation of women, Dalits, persons with disabilities, minorities, and other communities.
