Parties hold meeting on formation of high-level probe commission

KATHMANDU, Sep 24: Leaders from major parties are holding a meeting to discuss the formation of a high-level probe commission for the gold smuggling case. The meeting is being held in the Ministry of Defence with the Acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka.

Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak informed that Home Minister Shrestha, whips and chief whips of the major parties are also participating in the meeting.

A meeting was held on Friday with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Home Minister, Narayankaji Shrestha. But the parties couldn't reach a consensus and the commission could not be formed.

The main opposition party CPN-UML has accused the government of not being ready to form a commission to investigate the gold smuggling case per the prior agreement. UML has been demanding the commission to be given full responsibility for the investigation but the government has been rejecting their proposal.
