Meeting to be held to reach consensus on formation of high-level probe commission

KATHMANDU, Sep 24: The government and the opposition party CPN-UML are going to hold a discussion again to reach an agreement on the formation of a high-level probe commission to investigate the gold smuggling case.

The ruling party and the opposition could not reach a consensus on the mandate of the commission in the two meetings held on Friday. As a result, the commission could not be formed in September 22.

"Two meetings have been called for Sunday afternoon," CPN-UML whip Mahesh Bartaula said, "We are visiting the Ministry of Home Affairs at 2 in the afternoon."

In the previous discussion, the UML had maintained that a commission should be formed to conduct a thorough investigation of 61 kg of gold smuggled through vapes. The government did not agree to this proposal and the commission could not be formed.
