Ratopati Correspondent Dhami threatened by Student Organization close to Biplav, FNJ objects

KATHMANDU, Sep 13: The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has objected to the threat given to Ratopati and its correspondent Krishna Singh Dhami. The student organization of the party led by Netra Bikram Chand threatened Ratopati and Krishna Singh Dhami, a journalist working in Ratopati, regarding the issue of news. The federation has protested against the threat.

The General Secretary of the Federation, Rosan Puri, issued a press release stating that their attention has been drawn to the threat of punishing Ratopati Online and the journalist who wrote the news for the news published in Ratopati. “The Federation of Nepalese Journalists has drawn attention to the press release issued by Prakash C, the chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary),” it has been stated in the press release issued by the Federation.

A news was published on September 11 where it was said even Biplav had put pressure for subjective approval for the colleges that did not fulfill the criteria of TU. Objecting to the news, Ratopati and journalist Dhami were threatened.

The Federation has objected to the warning on the press release issued by the student organization citing the names of journalist Krishna Singh Dhami and Ratopati Online. Stating that there is a provision to seek a legal remedy or file a complaint in the Press Council upon dissatisfaction with any piece of news, the federation has drawn the attention of the concerned parties to respect the Press Rights guaranteed by the constitution, and not repeat such acts like threatening the media and journalists, which is a serious attack on press freedom.
