SSP of CIB heading to Hong Kong for investigation on 60 kg gold smuggling

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is going to send a high-level officer to Hong Kong to investigate on the recent case of smuggling of 60 kg gold which was seized from the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).

An officer of CIB informed Ratopati that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Acharya will be sent to Hong Kong.

The Department of Revenue Investigation seized the 60 kg 716 grams of gold on July 19. The gold was smuggled from Hong Kong by ‘Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd’ by hiding inside the brake pads of motorcycles and scooters. On August 6, CIB was handed over the responsibility of the investigation by the Department.

SSP Acharya is heading to Hong Kong in coordination with Interpol Hong Kong. The Police Headquarters has formed an investigation committee under the leadership of the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Kiran Bajracharya, who is also the Director of CIB.

The CIB had formed a team under the command of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Singh Thapa and started the investigation on August 7. The Police had already sent a letter to the Interpol requesting help for the investigation.
