Kathmandu sees 399 disasters, majority of fire, in 11 months

KATHMANDU, July 5: Three hundred ninety-nine disaster-related incidents have taken place in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in the 11 months of the current fiscal year, 2022/23. A total of 355 disaster-related incidents occurred in the previous Fiscal Year according to the Metropolitan.

Most of them are fire incidents (162 incidents), according to the KMC. Most of the fire incidents were electrical fires and the ones caused by cooking gas explosions, said Superintendent of Police, the KMC police, Bishnu Prasad Joshi.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan City has allocated Rs 35 million for the next Fiscal Year, 2023/24 to purchase equipment for disaster management.
