Wholesale price of tomatoes increases by 4 rupees

KATHMANDU, June 20: The wholesale price of domestic tomatoes has increased by 4 rupees in the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market on Tuesday.

The wholesale price of small tomatoes (tunnel) has also increased by 3 rupees and 80 paisa. The small tomatoes are being traded at the price of 11 rupees and 80 paisa per kg today in the Kalimati market.

On 18th June, farmers had thrown tomatoes at the Kalimati streets in protest after their production did not get the market value in accordance with their costs.

The wholesale price of the tomatoes was Rs 8 per kg before the protest. Farmers were only getting 2 rupees per kg for their production. With the rise in wholesale prices, the income of farmers has also gone up.

There are three types of tomato businesses in Kalimati at present. Small tomatoes (tunnel) are traded at the lowest price, while Indian and Nepali large tomatoes are traded at 40 rupees per kg.
