Associate Professor Prem Chalaune arrested

KATHMANDU, June 19: Tribhuvan University Associate Professor Prem Chalaune has been arrested and is being kept in the police circle at Singha Darbar. Sitaram Rijal, SP of Kathmandu District Police Range, informed Ratopati that the police arrested Chalaune who was accused of rioting in the Kathmandu District Court premises on Monday. 

On October 6, 2020, the workers of the Nepal Students Association attacked the Associate Professor of Sociology, Chalaune. The group of Tribhuwan University Nepal Students Association Chairman Hari Acharya had attacked Chalaune. There was a case against 5 people including Acharya in the District Court Kathmandu. The final hearing of the case was scheduled for Tuesday.

However, even before that, the government decided to withdraw the case against the workers of the Nepal Students Association. Following the government's decision, Chalaune had warned that he would go on a hunger strike.
