Doctors' consultation fees increase by 14 percent

KATHMANDU, May 15: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) and the Association of Private Health Institution Nepal (APHIN) have reached an agreement to hike the doctor's consultation charge by 14 percent beginning today. 

This is the second time in two years that medical consultation fees have increased. 

As said by NMA general secretary Dr. Sanjeev Tiwari, the latest decision to hike the fees follows the recommendation of the Nepal Rastra Bank's Inflation and Fees Advisory Committee. 

As per the revised fee chart, Rs 420 to Rs 940 per patient for doctor consultation. The fee to see MBBS and BDS graduates with a five-year experience is fixed at Rs 420 while Rs 515 is charged to receive services from those who have more than a five-year experience. 

Likewise, the fees to see a doctor with a diploma degree and five years of experience are Rs 670, while Rs 750 is charged for an appointment with MD, MS and MDS doctors having experience of up to five years. Also, Rs 880 is charged to see those with more than five years of experience. One has to pay Rs 880 to receive the service from a doctor with a DM/MCh degree and five years of experience, and Rs 940 to see those MD/MCH degree holders with experiences of more than five years.
