Poll body mandates nomination of female candidates for vice presidential election
KATHMANDU, March 10: The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has issued a directive to political parties to nominate female candidates for the upcoming vice presidential election. According to the Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, the election of Ram Chandra Poudel as President has made it necessary for parties to field female candidates for the position of vice president.
Under Article 70 of the Nepalese Constitution, it is required that the election of both the President and Vice-President include representation from different genders and communities. As a result, the EC has mandated the nomination of female candidates for the position of vice president.
