Both Nepali Congress, CPN-UML to be on opposition’s seat in parliament

KATHMANDU, March 1: Both the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML will be sitting on the opposition’s seat in the parliament.

The Nepali Congress has maintained that the party will remain in the opposition seat until the party formally joins the government. 

Likewise, the coalition between the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN-UML broke recently, which placed the UML in the opposition seat.

According to Article 100 (2), the Constitution of Nepal, in case the political party, which the Prime Minister represents, is divided or a political party in coalition government withdraws its support, the Prime Minister shall table a motion in the House of Representatives for a vote of confidence within thirty days.

With CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s decision to withdraw its support from the government, the PM Dahal-led government now has support of 153 lawmakers including 32 lawmakers of CPN (Maoist Center), 88 lawmakers of Nepali Congress, 12 of JSP, 10 of CPN (US), four of Nagarik Unmukti Party, six of Janamat Party and one of Rastriya Janamorcha.
