World Cancer Day: Emphasis on making vaccines accessible for treatment

BHAKTAPUR, Feb. 4: Today, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital celebrated World Cancer Day with the main slogan 'Stop the disparity in care'. In a program held at the hospital, Bhaktapur Municipality Chief Sunil Prajapati said that many citizens lose their lives due to cancer every year. He said that the municipality has the plan to develop Bhaktapur by making it a hub for quality education and health.
Dr. Madankumar Upadhyay, Head of the Quality, Standards, and Regulation Division of the Ministry of Health and Population and a member of the Hospital Management Committee, said that the message that cancer can be cured if treated on time, should be conveyed to villages. He emphasized that the government should facilitate vaccination in Nepal to treat cervical cancer which is becoming complicated in Nepal.
Medical Superintendent of Bhaktapur Hospital Dr. Sumitra Gautam informed that the hospital is going to provide free treatment for diseases such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, fistula, Alzheimer's, and other diseases under Chief Minister Janata Health Program. Hospital doctor Dr. Roshan Prajapati said that for the prevention of cervical cancer, test centers should be run in every district, public awareness should be spread and content should be included in the curriculum.
According to Dr. Prajapati, 84,579 patients were examined in Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital in one year, 3,588 new patients were added and 80 to 100 new patients were admitted daily. At the event, Senior Public Health Officer Krishna Bahadur Mijar and Executive Director Prof. Dr. Vishnudatta Poudel of the hospital said that services should be expanded by installing more equipment.
