Inquiry committee submits report on 'spot fixing' of cricket

Recommendation for further investigation

KATHMANDU, Jan. 23: The inquiry committee has submitted a report with the conclusion that there is 'spot fixing' in Nepal T-20 League cricket. A team led by Police Superintendent Sanjay Singh Thapa of the Central Bureau of Investigation investigated the matter. Officers including DSP Sundar Tiwari were members of the investigation committee. The committee submitted the report to AIG Uttamraj Subedi of the CIB.
The committee has recommended further investigation, with the fact that there is clear fixing. Based on the report of the committee, the Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested former national cricket player Mehbub Alam from Morang. Another member of the national cricket team, Adil Ansari, was arrested by the bureau from Rajbiraj, Saptari.
During the investigation, the bureau interrogated the players and officials. From the initial investigation, it is suspected that the owner of Seven-3 Sport, the company entrusted with the management of T-20 League cricket, is involved in fixing. Jatin Ahluwalia, the main director of the company, absconded after the police started investigating. It has been learned from the preliminary investigation that players who play 'spot fixing' in Nepal T-20 League cricket take up to 5 lakhs. An officer involved in the investigation says, "It seems that spot-fixing is done by taking 1 lakh to 5 lakhs, and the amount is seen deposited in the players' accounts."
