UN welcomes ceasefire in Colombia

AMERICA, Jan. 2: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Colombia on Sunday.
The five different armed groups that have been engaging in violence in Colombia recently signed a letter regarding a six-month ceasefire with the Colombian government. The President of Colombia, while delivering a message of greetings for the New Year 2023, addressed on December 31 that the Colombian government has signed a ceasefire with the five armed rebel groups.
He said that this state of ceasefire will be maintained from January 2023 to coming June 30th. UN Secretary-General Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric has said that the latest political developments that have developed with the ceasefire in Colombia have increased the hope of peace establishment in the citizens.
He has also emphasized that during this ceasefire period, all parties should be involved in the process of peace talks with all the armed groups here and through this, peace should be established in the country.
Secretary-General Guterres has also urged all sides in Colombia to use this cease-fire to start peace-building work in Colombia. In a statement published by his spokesperson Dujarric on Sunday, it is also stated that the United Nations is always ready to provide all necessary support for establishing peace in Colombia.
