United Nations request Taliban government to lift ban on women's education

Afghanistan, Dec. 28: The United Nations Security Council has also expressed its serious concern at a time when there is a worldwide protest against the Taliban government's ban on women and girls from going to university.
The United Nations Security Council has said that this decision made by the Taliban government of Afghanistan should be corrected immediately and women should get equal rights. Since women have equal rights in education, they should be respected by all, the council said by publishing a statement asking them to take back the decisions made by the Taliban government.
Just two weeks ago, the education minister of the Taliban government claimed they made that decision. He informed that the government has decided not to allow Afghan girls and women to go to university.
The incident has been protested everywhere. Just last week, Rosa Otunboya, the United Nations Special Representative for Afghanistan, published a statement against it.
In the statement of the Security Council on Tuesday, it is requested to correct those decisions and create a situation where women's rights are respected as such a decision is not even in the interest of the country of Afghanistan and it is very sad that women are not able to go to university to study even in the current era.
In a statement published by the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, it has been requested open all schools and universities that are said to be closed to women. Since the beginning of the Taliban rule in Afghanistan two years ago, women's rights have been taken away. They have been banned from many public places and activities and recently they are said to be barred from even going to university.
Since the women of Afghanistan have made a great contribution to the development of Afghanistan, various officials and agencies of the United Nations are requesting that this decision be corrected immediately and protect the right of all citizens to receive education in a fair and just manner.
