Govt directed not to allow organizing beauty pageants for now

KATHMANDU, May 23: Women and Social Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) has directed the government not to allow organizing beauty pageants for now on Monday.

A meeting of the committee held on Monday directed the government to allow organizing beauty pageants only after maintaining clear policy clarity. 

The committee’s direction comes after a girl who had participated in a beauty pageant few years ago filed a case maintaining that she was raped by the organizer during the event.

Likewise, the Parliamentary Committee has directed the government to review statute of limitation on rape.
