Police to investigate Letang incident

Students and locals staged a protest on Sunday accusing a teacher of abusing a student. Security personnel were deployed and a policewoman was killed in a clash.

KATHMANDU, March 21: A female police personnel was killed on Sunday in a clash between agitating students and locals and police at Letang, Morang.

The police will conduct the investigation of the case, according to the Province 1, Police Office.

“It is a huge incident. A policewoman has been killed. We will surely investigate the case,” said DIG Arun BC of Province 1, Police Office.

As many as 25 police personnel and seven general public were injured in the incident. 

The policewoman killed in the incident has been identified as Urmila Shrestha. Shrestha, originally from Kothang, was recruited in Nepal Police three years ago.

To control further conflicts, a curfew has been imposed in the area.

Accusing Manoj Poudel, a teacher of Letang-5 based Siksha Bikash Secondary School, of abusing a student, the students of the school and the locals had staged a protest in the school premises.
