I will resign from the post of Chairman if party fails to endorse MCC compact: MC Chair Dahal

KATHMANDU, March 13: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal maintained that he will resign from the post if the party fails to endorse the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal compact.

Addressing a province-level event in Biratnagar, Chair Dahal said that the party will hold discussion on the MCC compact after the local level elections. “If the party fails to endorse the MCC compact during the meeting. I will resign from the post,” Dahal said.

The party is largely divided on its decision to support the government to ratify the MCC compact without amendment.

Some leaders of the party including Narayankaji Shrestha have accused Dahal of acting against the party’s decision. Earlier during the party’s general convention, the party had decided to oppose MCC compact ratification without amendment.

Likewise, Dahal also stated that the party will hold protests if the MCC compact ratified with an interpretative declaration is not implemented in a respectful manner.
