Dengue and viral fever surge in Tanahun
Tanahun, October 13 — The number of patients suffering from viral fever and dengue has risen in the Byas Municipality area of Tanahun. Patients are being treated on the floor of the hospital due to a lack of beds.
In this hospital, which has a capacity of 15 beds, around 400 patients with fever come for treatment daily. Shanti Raman Wagle, chairman of the Damauli Hospital Management Committee and head of the District Coordination Committee in Tanahun, reported that the increase in patient numbers has resulted in a shortage of beds.
“We have to treat patients on the floor; due to the lack of space, we cannot admit them properly. The number of dengue patients has increased unexpectedly,” he stated.
Despite repeated requests to the Gandaki Province government for the hospital's upgrade, Wagle mentioned that they are facing difficulties due to the lack of response. Plans are being made to transfer dialysis services to Byas Municipality Hospital due to the shortage of beds, and permission has been requested from the Gandaki Province government for this.
The number of dengue patients in Byas wards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 is increasing daily.
According to Dinesh Pandit, a senior staff member at Damauli Hospital, there were 43 cases in July, 281 in August, and 297 so far in October. In addition to Tanahun, patients from neighboring areas such as Madhya Nepal in Lamjung, Palungtar Municipality in Gorkha, and Rupa Rural Municipality in Kaski come to Damauli Hospital for treatment.
