Govt hospitals to charge Rs 800 only for PCR tests

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: After a direction from Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, the cost of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test has been reduced to Rs 800 only in the government hospitals.

Earlier, PM Deuba had directed Health Minister, Birodh Khatiwada and Secretary, Dr. Roshan Pokhrel to reduce the fee, reasoning it was high in hospitals and laboratories.

With this, government hospitals will charge only Rs 800 while private hospitals can charge up to Rs 1500 for the RT-PCR tests. 

Earlier, the cost was Rs 1,000 at the government hospitals and Rs 2,000 at private hospitals and laboratories.
