Maoist Center’s party statute passed. Know major provisions
Party to have 15 office bearers, 299-member CWC
KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Party statue of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center), which was presented for discussion and endorsement in the closed-door session of the party, has been passed unanimously.
The statute was passed through the ongoing closed-door session under the 8th General Convention of the party after a standing committee member Dev Gurung responded to the questions raised during the panel-wise deliberations.
The 25 groups had held panel discussions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Gurung had tabled the statute draft on Monday.
As per the new party statute, the ruling party will elect a 299-member central working committee through the mixed electoral system---- 50 percent of members through the open category and another 50 percent through the proportional representation system.
A certain number of seats have been allocated for the people from clusters including Dalit, Muslim, Tharu, Madhesi, indigenous nationalities, Khas Arya, physically challenged, backward region, female and youths under the proportional representation system.
The party envisions electing a minimum of 25 percent females and 40 percent youths under the age of 40 in the central working committee from all the clusters and open categories as well.
The central committee will again nominate another 15 percent.
The ongoing general convention will elect a new central committee, politburo, standing committee and office-bearers.
Politburo, standing committee and office bearer positions will be elected based on the principle of inclusiveness.
Similarly, the party's office-bearer positions include a chairman, a senior vice-chair, six vice-chairs, a general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, three secretaries and a treasurer.
