NBA stages sit-in at SC, Chief Justice Rana enters via alternative gate (with photos)

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA), on Friday, staged a sit-in protest at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the resignation of Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana.

The lawyers associated with the NBA attempted to stop CJ Rana from entering the Supreme Court on Friday. They gathered at the main entry gate in a bid to bar Rana from entering the court premises.

Large number of security personnel were mobilized on the apex court premises.

CJ Rana, however, made it to the court through an alternative gate. Escorted by security personnel, he entered into the court at 10:52AM skipping the sit-in protest staged by the lawyers.

Legal practitioners have been organizing various protest programs for the past two weeks asking Chief Justice Rana to step down and give a way out. His fellow justices at the apex court have also been boycotting all other benches except for those hearing habeas writ petitions.
