OCE's carelessness puts shroud of uncertainty on future of students

Bhaktapur - The carelessness on part of the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) has put a shroud of uncertainty over the students' future.
On June 16, the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) were released following which the office witnessed an unprecedented influx of students submitting applications to seek correction in their mark sheets.
The mark sheets of these students were published with technical glitches showing results of one subject in another and showing completely new subjects.
The students of the Manakamana English Secondary School received results in subjects that they had never read and for which they had not appeared for in the exams.
School Principal, Sri Ram Acharya, said the results of Sandesh Sangmi (symbol no 0284564), Shristi Shakya (symbol no 0284565) and Sitara Tajale (symbol no 024566) had such defects.
Sangmi said that his dream of studying medical science in scholarship was shattered following the result.
"Everyone is concerned at my home, I had always come first and felt I would receive good results in the SEE; my family wants me to become a doctor, my dream and my family's happiness have been snatched away," Sangmi said.
The college which had promised Sangmi scholarship has now turned its back on him, shoving his future into uncertainty, Acharya shared.
The family of Shristi is in tension due to the negligence of the Office of the Controller of Examinations. "Optional mathematics paper that she attended in the examinations has disappeared from the marksheet. Instead economics has been printed on the marksheet. There are not expected marks in other subjects too," he said.
He went on, "We feared that she could do anything wrong under the spell of emotions. We could not even sleep properly as a result. She had a wish to pursue engineering beforehand. But it is getting difficult for her to even pursue higher studies given her low marks in the examinations."
Likewise, Sitaram of Kamalbinayak has been thrown into anxiety ever since he has got the marksheet with optional mathematics that he attended in the test disappeared.
"I attended optional mathematics paper. However to my utter surprise, I have got my marksheet printed with optional economics. I have got 'C' plus against my expectation of acquiring 'A' plus too," he said.
Students of Bhaktapur English School in Gaththaghar in Bhaktapur have gone agitated when they said they could not get expected marks in practical science. The school had 51 students appear for the test this year.
Moreover, although the school had sent sheet illustrating the marks each student had got in practical test, through the District Education Office, asking the Examination Controller to give 25 marks in practical science to each student, only 22 marks have been given, said the school principal Sri Narayan Yadav.
When asked, Examination Controller Ambika Prasad Regmi admitted to the negligence, pledging to rectify such mistakes in the days to come.
He also suggested applying to the Examination Controller Office for corrections in case that attended papers have disappeared from the marksheet. In case of a student not satisfied with given marks, he or she can apply by paying Rs 500 each subject, he added.
