UML splits, Madhav Nepal-led UML (Samajbadi) formed

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The main opposition CPN-UML has split into two as the party's senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal formed a new party called CPN-UML (Samajbadi).

The new party, which applied for its registration at the Election Commission on Wednesday, has proposed the election symbol of an ‘open book’.

A leader of the newly formed party, Metmani Chaudhary said that leaders including Rajendra Pandey reached the poll body and filed a petition to get registered.

Leader Npeal himself will lead the party as a coordinator.

The move of the faction comes shortly after President Biday Devi Bhandari issued an ordinance that amends the provision for party-split.
