Disasters claim 156 lives, 37 go missing in four months

KATHMANDU, Aug 8:At least 156 people have lost their lives due to various disasters since mid-April. 

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Authority, 156 people have been killed and 37 others have gone missing since April 14 due to floods, landslides, lightning, fire, and wildfire. 

Of the total fatalities, the highest number of lives --- 35 ---were claimed by floods while 27 others were killed during incessant rainfall. Similarly, other deaths include eight from lightning, 12 from snake bite and 13 killed during fire. While 18 people died of animal attacks, three were killed during wildfire incidents and one during a hurricane. 

A total of 353 people sustained injuries during the same period leaving 17,037 affected by disasters. 

The authority also revealed that a loss of properties worth Rs 859,095,942 was destroyed during the incidents of disasters.
