FNJ Kantipur chapter condemns threat to journalist Miya

KATHMANDU, June 8: The Kantipur associate chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the threat issued to its editor Abdullah Miya merely for writing news.

Former Minister of Forest and Environment Prem Bahadur Ale issued threat to senior deputy editor at Kantipur daily and former central member of FNJ, Miya during a telephone call Miya made for interview yesterday.

"If the former Minister had any reservation on the content of news, he could take legal recourse to show concern, but issuing threat merely for writing news is against press freedom," the chapter stated in a press release today.

It further demanded the government and other bodies concerned to help create atmosphere safe for journalists.
