Homework on to operate Biratnagar jute mill

Kathmandu - The Ministry of Industry is doing the necessary preparatory works for operating the Biratnagar Jute Mills which is closed since the last approximately 20 years. 

The Ministry has demanded Rs 250 million with the Finance Ministry for the operation of the jute mills and preparatory works were underway to that connection, Minister of State for Industry, Resham Lama told Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). 

The mill, which had taken approximately Rs 1 billion 5 million 500 thousand loan, is yet to pay back the principal and its interest. 

The jute mill will meet nearly 75 per cent of the domestic demand for jute. It will directly or indirectly provide employment to around 15 thousand people.
