MFALD issues directive to local bodies to implement building code

Kathmandu - Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has issued a directive to all Metropolitan cities, Sub-Metropolitan cities and Municipalities to strictly implement the building code. 

According to Ministry Spokesperson Rudra Singh Tamang, the Ministry on Sunday circulated a letter to this regard.

He added that the letters were prepared as per the request of Ministry of Women, Social Welfare and Children so that these bodies would be forced to implement the building code in view of the need of disability-friendly structures. 

The Council of Ministries on 13 February 2013 had endorsed the directive making aware the concerned bodies to ensure the accessibility of disabled people to the public buildings. 

Though the directive was endorsed five years back, it is yet to be implemented effectively. So, the Ministry again circulated the letter for the same, Tamang shared.
