Commercialization of education hinders SDG realization

Kathmandu - Representatives of the education unions from the Asia Pacific regions have said it would be difficult to realize the sustainable development goals (SDGs) relating to education, for this sector was getting commercialized and privatized day by day. 

During the 8th Education International Asia Pacific Regional Conference organized in the capital city, the speakers suggested the concerned governments not to prioritize the privatization of education if they were to achieve the SDGs. The governments should ensure financial and policy level arrangements to promote public education, they stressed. 

The SDG mentions that the UN members would ensure quality, equitable and lifetime education by 2030. 

The three-day long conference kicked off on Tuesday discusses the SDG and education in various sub-regional groups to whet the issues for broader visibility and realization.
