Construction of Tea Evaluation Centre not started yet

Kathmandu - Construction of the Tea Evaluation and Promotion Centre is yet to begin. The Centre is being developed at Suryodaya Municipality in Ilam district citing coronavirus infection and the monsoon flooding. 1, Suryodaya Municipality is developing the centre in which the State government would invest 75 per cent of the total Rs 230 million for the development of the centre. The construction work of the building is targeted to complete in five years but officials doubt timely completion since construction works were not initiated until now.

The detailed project report was prepared in February but the construction job has not started as yet due to coronavirus infection and monsoon, said Devendra Sharma, coordinator of Suryodaya Tea Secretariat. Sharma said that the building will have a museum too where the visitors would be able to observe the various facets of the evolution of the tea industry in Ilam and the types of tea cultivated in the district.
