Chandragiri Municipality launches 'One House, One Graduate' campaign

Kathmandu - Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu district which has achieved cent per cent literacy rate has launched 'One House, One Graduate' so as to educate the entire citizens in its municipality. The Municipality, with 851,198 population as per the 2011 census, is the biggest one among the municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley.

To ensure access of education to people from all strata of society, the Municipality has planned to provide scholarships to people from poor, indigenous, women, Madheshi, marginalized and physically challenged community who are diligent. Municipality mayor Ghanashyam Giri shared that new plan and programme of the municipality also includes enrolling children of civil servants in community schools.

Furthermore, to upgrade and enhance the quality of education in community schools, education consultants and experts would be hired and their recommendations would be implemented. Mid-day meal would be distributed to students in community schools and sanitary pads would be distributed to female students for free of cost in those schools, according to the Municipality. Learning centres would be set up in various places to enhance the quality of education.

There are 24 schools and two colleges in the Municipality and they would be upgraded, it is stated. Among the Rs 1.49 billion budget allocated for the Municipality in the current fiscal year, education and health sector have been highly prioritized, informed Municipality spokesperson Haribhakta Maharjan. Scholarship schemes have been introduced to educate as many as daughters and daughter-in-laws in the Municipality, informed Maharjan.
