Five more held for involvement in 88-kg gold smuggling scam
Kathmandu - The Kathmandu Metropolitan Crime Division has arrested five more persons for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of 88 kilograms of gold.
A team of police personnel deployed from Division arrested Ganesh Dutta Badu of Karya Binayak Jewelries, Satya Narayan Agrawal of Rabi Shyam Trades, Shubha Ratna Shakya of Shakya Jewelries, Ullas Dinkar Salukhe of Siddhanath Jewelries and Nanda Kumar Margale of Pashupati Jewelries of the capital city on Monday.
Organizing a news conference on Wednesday, Division Chief Dibesh Lohani said the police recovered Rs 1.08 million, 8,000 Indian currency and 1,100 US Dollars from Badu while Rs 1.3 million from Agrawal and Rs 14.2 million along with 1209 grams of gold from Shakya.
Police said that Salukhe and Margale were arrested for supporting the main culprits as their aides.
Lohani added that more people are involved in the smuggling of 88 kgs of gold and the case is under investigation.
Some two weeks ago, the Division had arrested Manoj Adhikari from the Chhetrapati in the capital city along with a Tata Safari vehicle (Ba 17 Cha 6427).
