Commercial production of medicinal herbs necessary: Minister Basnet

Kathmandu - Minister for Information and Communications, Mohan Bahadur Basnet has insisted that trade deficit could be minimized by producing and exporting herbs in a commercial way. 

Addressing a discussions programme on the possibilities and challenges of herbal trade in Nepal organized by the Herbs Traders Association here on Saturday, he stressed on commercial cultivation and production of herbs in a country like ours which is rich in biodiversity. 

The Minister also expressed the commitment that the government would extend whatever support was required for promoting Nepali herbal products in the international market. 

President of Reporters Club Nepal, Rishi Dhamala said the trade deficit has reached approximately Rs 900 billion and this could be reduced by promoting and exploring the international market for Nepali herbal products. 

He opined that promotion of herbal trade and production would also help create employment opportunities and boost the national economy. 

The Association honoured Dhamala on the occasion in recognition of his contribution to promoting the economy through journalism.
