TU suspends temporary affiliation to National Medical College
Kathmandu - The Tribhuvan University (TU) has suspended the temporary affiliation given to the National Medical College.
The widespread criticism about the TU decision to grant the temporary affiliation to the college has prompted it to withdraw the affiliation for now. The TU's move was disputed as it was in contravention to the suggestions of the Kedarbhakta Mathema Commission and the agreements reached with Dr Govinda KC.
Earlier, the Health Ministry wrote to the country's oldest University informing that the college had not acquired the license of a teaching hospital while the Education Ministry directed it to review the decision regarding the affiliation from the view of existing laws and set criteria for so.
A meeting of the TU executive council Saturday, suspending the affiliation, formed a probe committee under the convenorship of Nepal Law Campus' professor Dr Sanat Devkota, to look into the matter, according to TU Vice Chancellor Dr Tirtharaj Khaniya.
The Committee will submit a report within a week and the TU will take next decision about the matter thereafter. The college was granted the temporary affiliation on August 6 this year.
