Government working for self-dependency in energy: Minister Shahi

Kathmandu - Energy Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has said the government was seriously working to make the country self-dependent in energy sector. 

Speaking at a face-to-face programme organised by Reporters' Club Nepal here Saturday, the Energy Minister shared that few capital had been invested in the energy sector and the government was making efforts to build an atmosphere to attract foreign direct investment to this area. 

He clarified that he and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)'s executive director had no disagreement regarding the official duties. "There seems no reason to remove him from the post." 

As stated by the Energy Minister, the government had already allocated Rs 16 billion to the authority concerned to distribute compensation for land acquisitioned for the reservoir -based Budhigandaki Hydropower Project. Additional Rs 44 billion is needed to distribute the entire compensation which will be paid in the current fiscal, he said.
