NHRC draws govt attention to disclose status of disappeared persons
Kathmandu - National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has drawn the government attention to make public the condition of enforced disappeared persons and guarantee the right to know the facts and information about the families of the disappeared.
NHRC drew government attention after the condition of persons made disappeared by the state side and the then rebel side during a decade-long armed conflict has not been made public to the date.
A press release issued by NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari on Wednesday, on the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances, stated that complaints have been registered at the NHRC time and again demanding search for the enforced disappeared persons.
Among the complaints filed at the NHRC, whereabouts of 846 disappeared persons are still unknown.
The NHRC concluded it was disappointing for no disclosure of the condition of the disappeared persons following 10 years of the signing of he Comprehensive Peace Accord, reads the statement.
The Commission, in its press statement, noted that the status of impunity has increased for failure to book the perpetrators involved in enforced disappearance though the Commission recommended their names for action.
