UML leader Nepal preparing to register new party

KATHMANDU, August 18: Senior Leader of CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal has begun preparations to register a new political party.

Following the party’s decision to sack 14 lawmakers of the party including Nepal himself on Tuesday, Nepal is now all set to register a new political party within a few days.

“KP Sharma Oli is less likely to correct himself. Therefore, we are preparing to register a new party," said Jaganath Kathiwada, a central committee member of the Nepal-led faction of UML.

Leaders close to Nepal maintain that Oli has given them no other option than registering a new party.

“Oli has shut all the doors for the party unification. We are left with no other alternatives than registering our own party,” said Nepal.

Earlier on Tuesday, the government introduced an ordinance that allows political parties to split if 20 percent members either in the central committee or parliamentary party of a political party are in favor of it. Following the government’s move, CPN-UML sacked its 14 lawmakers and expanded its central committee members from 203 to 260.
