China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation launches Emergency Community Oxygen Station in Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 23: China foundation for poverty alleviation (CFPA)’s Nepal office,  has launched the Emergency community Oxygen Station program at Chhetrapati. of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

With the program being kicked off on Sunday afternoon, CFPA  handed over 20 oxygen cylinders (40L capacity each) along with the other essential health supplies   -- 200 personal protective equipment (PPEs), 100 face shields, 1000 pcs of masks and 2 sanitation machines for community disinfection to Ward 17, Chhetrapati and 5 oxygen cylinders (40L each)  and some medical material support to Ward 19

CFPA’s country director Zou Zhiqiang, addressing the event, said that the program has been  carried out as a prompt response to the second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal. “As Nepal is being ravaged by the second wave of the coronavirus disease,  the CFPA , in coordination with the local government, is planning to support more than 10 communities, which are heavily impacted by COVID-19 such as the Kathmandu valley, Dhakshinkali, Pharphing municipalities in Bagmati province and sarlahi, Dhanusha districts in province 2, with much needed medical equipments. 

According to Zou Zhiqiang, more than 100 thousand low- income people will benefit from the program. “Once the first phase of providing much needed assistance, other programs  including sanitization (Disinfection for communities), food distribution (with safety rules), schoolbag distribution (with sanitation materials) -- will also be carried out afterward throughout the country.”

Ward 17 Chairman, Nabin Manandhar, receiving the supplies expressed his gratitude to the Chinese people and CFPA for their prompt support at a crucial time.  

CFPA, a leading humanitarian organization in China, has been conducting its philanthropic activities in Nepal since 2015. The organization is the first active Chinese INGO operating in Nepal for six years. It has general agreement with SWC Nepal to channelize aid funds to assist in the reconstruction of infrastructures damaged by the earthquake of April 2015. Till date, CFPA Nepal office has helped more than 400,000 people.
