Supreme Court orders release of Durga Prasain
Kathmandu, December 20 — The Supreme Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain.
He was in police custody on charges of threatening a businessman, and the Supreme Court issued the release order on Friday.
He had been presented before the Supreme Court on Friday following an order to bring him along with his detention in the second habeas corpus petition.
He had requested to be released on a general date, claiming that even though he was released on bail in a cybercrime case, the police had re-arrested him with the intention of causing harm. In response, the Supreme Court issued the verdict in his favor.
Prasain was arrested by the police for allegedly spreading misinformation against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Though the court had ordered his release on bail for the earlier case, the police had re-arrested him based on a new warrant issued by the court for the charge of threatening the businessman.
