Infringement on democratic rights unacceptable: NC president Deuba

Bhaktapur– Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said violation of democratic rights is not acceptable for the party. 


In his address to the first death anniversary of democratic fighter Leela Bahadur Pandit at Sudal of Changunarayan municipality here today, the former prime minister accused the incumbent government of attempting to restrict the democratic rights and it would never be entertained by the NC. 


"The government is trying to impose unnecessary restrictions on the press under different pretexts and NC will not witness such move silently." 


(The late) Pandit born in 1990 BS at Jitpurphedi of Sudal had started his political career in 2011 BS from the NC and he had spent 16 consecutive years (from 2019 - 2034 BS) for his active participation efforts to restore democracy during the party-less Panchayat system. 


NC Bhaktapur district president Durlav Thapa described the demise of Pundit as an incomparable loss to the party. "We must follow the steps of our seniors, contributing to take the party ahead in a cohesive manner." 
Party former district president Tilak Kayastha, NC Bhaktapur constituency- 1 president Jeevan Khatri, constituency 2 president Narayan Khayamali, NC leader and RSS former chair Mathawarsingh Basnet and youth leader Yadav Adhikari highlighted the contribution of Pandit to the democratic movement at home.
